Caitlin Coulson Pfeiffer, snare drummer in The Band Directors Marching Band, is the
High School Choir Director at Miamisburg High School in Miamisburg, Ohio. When
Caitlin began teaching at MHS in 2021, she noticed that the high school did not do any
kind of ceremony, assembly, or specific recognition for Veterans Day. She decided to
start an annual tradition of recording all of her choirs singing a patriotic song and
combining it with a slideshow that recognized the achievements of veterans who the
staff and students submitted. Every year, the choirs record a new song, create a new
slideshow, and present it on the high school's morning news segment on Veterans Day.
This is seen by all of the staff and students in the building, and shared on YouTube for
the staff and students to share with their families. This year, all 5 of the choirs, as well
as members of the Miamisburg Marching Band, came together to record vocal and
instrumental parts for the song, "O, America". There were 70 students who participated
in this year’s project.
