Miamisburg Viking Boys Bowling Wins Viking Classic

The Miamisburg Viking boys bowling team showed its resiliency by rallying from behind to win the 21-team Viking Classic at Poelking Lanes South.

After the opening traditional team game, the Vikings trailed tournament leader Celina by 127 pins, 1,075–948. Miamisburg responded in Game 2 with a strong 1,059 performance, cutting the deficit by 48 pins. The momentum continued in Game 3 as the Vikings rolled a 1,011 game, narrowing the gap to just 40 pins heading into Baker play.

In the Baker format, the Vikings took control by rolling games of 169, 215, 212, 225, and 248 to surge ahead and take a 55-pin lead over Celina going into the final Baker game. Miamisburg closed out the tournament with a 172 in the last game, finishing with a six-game Baker total of 1,242 to seal the victory. The Baker set was the highest of the tournament, finishing 104 pins ahead of the nearest competitor.

The final team standings for the top five were Miamisburg (4,259), Celina (4,191), Centerville (3,858), Kettering Fairmont (3,798), and Piqua (3,797).

Individually, junior James Chapman III led the way for the Vikings, rolling games of 198, 204, and 254 for a 656 series. Sophomore Zach Masters also had a strong showing with games of 193, 225, and 222. Their performances earned Chapman and Masters spots on the eight-person All-Tournament Team, finishing fifth and sixth overall, respectively.

The Vikings return to action on Monday when they travel to Wayne for their next match.
