The last week and a half has been a blur for the Miamisburg Girls Golf Team, and the Lady Vikings have gotten their season off to an exciting start.
Tryouts were held on July 28, with Seniors Gabby Henderson and Mia Miller, Junior Cece Weishaar, and Sophomore Alyssa Anderson earning spots on the Varsity team.
On Thursday, July 30, the ladies played their first match of the season against Greenville at Mound Golf Course. There were some first-match jitters, but all four players performed well, with Mia Miller leading the team with a score of 55.
The very next day, the Varsity traveled to Locust Hills Golf Course in Springfield to take on Southeastern. The Lady Vikings picked up their first victory of the season, defeating Southeastern 225-253. Cece Weishaar led the way with a low score of 53.
On Tuesday, August 4, Miamisburg hosted the Miamisburg Invitational. The Lady Vikings finished just one stroke behind Oakwood, placing 10th out of 13 teams. The girls battled and persevered throughout the morning, and the coaching staff was very proud of their effort. First-year player Cece Weishaar once again posted the team's low round.
On Thursday, August 6, the Varsity girls faced their first GWOC opponent of the season, Northmont, at Mound Golf Course. The Lady Vikings picked up their second head-to-head victory of the young season, defeating Northmont 229-248. Weishaar continued her impressive start, leading the team with another round of 53.
Thursday also marked the beginning of the JV season as the Lady Vikings competed in a tri-match against Fairmont and Northmont. First-year golfer Harper Lane led all golfers in the round with an impressive score of 65.
The Varsity Girls will be back on the course three times this week. Chaminade Julienne comes to Mound on Monday afternoon, the team will travel to Middletown Tuesday morning to face Kings, and the Lady Vikings will return to Mound Golf Course Thursday to take on Fairmont.
Happy belated birthday to Gabby Henderson (August 7) and Happy Birthday to Mia Miller (August 12)!
It has been an exciting first week and a half, and we look forward to watching the Lady Vikings continue to grow and compete throughout the season. Go Burg!
