There was something special about Friday night at Miamisburg High School.

Under beautiful August skies, the Vikings opened the 2026 varsity football season at home in front of an enthusiastic crowd, honored the 1966 team that finished an impressive 9-1, and then put together a performance worthy of the occasion.

Miamisburg dominated from start to finish, defeating Chaminade Julienne 44-14 in a physical and disciplined performance that provided another important step forward for the program.

The Vikings established themselves at the line of scrimmage throughout the night, rushing for 277 yards while holding Chaminade Julienne to just 67 yards on the ground. The physicality and discipline displayed on both sides of the ball set the tone as Miamisburg controlled the game and consistently made plays when they mattered most.

Senior quarterback Tytus Bettendorf led the way on the ground, rushing for three touchdowns and helping spark an offensive attack that kept the Vikings moving the chains. Junior quarterback Finn Freshwater also made his mark through the air, connecting with Brydon Martin for a touchdown.

Defensively, senior safety Josh Brodnick continued a home-opener tradition. For the second consecutive year, Brodnick intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown in Miamisburg's home opener, giving the Vikings another huge momentum play on the defensive side of the ball.

While the individual performances stood out, the biggest takeaway from the night was the way the Vikings played together. Miamisburg was the more physical and disciplined team, and that identity was evident from the opening kickoff through the final whistle.

The night also carried a special significance as the Vikings honored the 1966 team, a group that went 9-1 and remains an important part of Miamisburg football history. Celebrating that team's accomplishments provided a meaningful reminder of the tradition and pride that comes with wearing the Viking uniform.

The 44-14 victory gives Miamisburg a strong start to the season and plenty of momentum heading into Week 2.

Now, the Vikings hit the road.

Miamisburg travels to Edgewood in Week 2 with an opportunity to start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2023.

The home opener showed what this team can be when it plays with physicality, discipline and confidence. The Vikings will look to carry that same mindset into Week 2 as they continue taking steps in the right direction
