It was a great day for golf at Piqua" Echo Hills golf course Monday September 14th. After an informative Warm up range session sharing and taking swing tips, two of our lady Vikings were setting out on their final State Sectional round. It was the last go-around for Seniors Gabby Henderson and Mia Miller.
Gabby, a four year golfer, was focused, in good spirits. As the coach I am so proud of the way Gabby represented herself and our school yesterday. Gabby's golf game had been struggling as of late but she was able to self correct for her last sectional tournament. After a slower start than she wanted to her round, Gabby parred 3 of 5 the last holes on her first 9, posting bogey on another. Gabby also had two pars on the back 9 on her way to shooting her personal best on 18 holes.
Senior, Mia Miller a second year golfer did her thing making friends and vibing with her match opponents from Oakwood and Fairmont. Staying positive throughout the round encouraging her opponents after bad shots and praising them when they hit good ones. Mia's mindset and attitude propelled her through her round. I talked to Mia in the middle of her round and she said "I've hit really good shots today and had some bad shots but I feel good about the round overall". Mia ended up 17 strokes below her season average for the round and 20 strokes better than her last 18 round. A huge accomplishment!
Junior and first year competitive golfer Cecelia Weishaar shot a few strokes above her average. Her score was hampered by a few holes where she didn't score well. Cece dealt with the pressure of her first competitive state sectional round but showed tremendous resiliency, persevering and sticking to her process throughout the round. Cece finished her round with one birdie on the day, saying "a bad day on the golf course is better than a great day at work"
Sophomore and second year golfer Alyssa Anderson had a great day of golf leading the Lady Vikings shooting the low score of the day for the team. Alyssa spent all day flirting with Par and Birdie but just couldn't get some of her putts to drop. When asked why she wore sunglasses for the team photo Alyssa stated "the sun is a bully".
Overall it was a beautiful day and great showing by the girls golf team.
