The Lady Viking Varsity bowlers earned a runner-up finish Saturday at the Ironclad Tournament in Hillsboro, advancing as the top seed before falling 2-1 to White Oak in a tightly contested championship match. In a 10-team field, Miamisburg separated themselves early, showing consistency and clean execution through qualifying. Their performance secured the No. 1 seed by an impressive 103 pins.
In the semifinals, Miamisburg swept Washington Courthouse 2-0, closing frames cleanly and capitalizing on key late-game strikes. That win sent them to the finals, where they opened strong by taking the first game over White Oak. The final two games came down to a handful of key moments, and White Oak edged out narrow decisions to claim the title.
Though individual totals were not recorded, the contributions across the lineup were evident throughout the day. Senior Riley Blom displayed poise and leadership on the lanes, establishing early steadiness in multiple rotations. Fellow senior Austin Brewer showed improved consistency and came through with several big shots. Sophomore Madi Gordon continues to emerge as a major piece of the lineup as she gains experience.
Junior Nevaeh Chapman and freshman Brooklyn Barnett already operate at a high varsity level, and stacking them in the four and five positions provided Miamisburg a significant advantage when closing games. Their ability to turn good frames into big runs was a defining factor in advancing to the finals.
Freshmen Madilyn Zinn and sophomore Addy Holtzman both began bowling this summer and are accelerating rapidly in their development. Madilyn bowled multiple qualifying games and delivered in the most pressurized moments by converting two critical ten-pin spares in both the semifinals and finals. Addy continues her transition into the two-handed style and contributed during qualifying, showing growth and promise with every outing. Both athletes represent significant long-term upside and, paired with a strong veteran core, give the team a deep and sustainable foundation.
The group’s chemistry, support for one another, and ability to elevate performance in team-based Baker play stood out throughout the event. Miamisburg returns to action Monday evening at Poelking South when they host Springfield at 6:00 pm.
