The Miamisburg boys bowling team showed grit and determination Saturday, capturing first place at the Sweet 16 Elks Invitational at Poelking Lanes South with a dramatic finals victory.
After a challenging qualifying round, the Vikings entered bracket play as the No. 7 seed, but quickly proved they were capable of a deep run. Miamisburg opened match play with a convincing 564–488 win over Greenon, then edged Centerville 564–555 in a tightly contested second round. The Vikings continued their surge in the semifinals, knocking off LaSalle 651–618 to advance to the championship match.
In the finals, Miamisburg faced Celina in yet another close showdown at Poelking Lanes South. With the match hanging in the balance, Andrew Parker stepped up in the 10th frame, delivering 26 clutch pins to secure a thrilling 601–598 victory and the tournament title.
Head coach Andy Parker credited his team’s mental toughness for the championship run.
“Qualifying was a struggle, but once we got to match play the team showed their resiliency and managed to bring home another championship,” Parker said. “I knew they could do it all along.”
Individually, the Vikings were led by Zach Masters with a team-high 422 series, while AJ Cannarozzi added a strong 368. The balanced team effort and ability to perform under pressure fueled Miamisburg’s impressive run through the invitational.
